Location: Guion Farm Parking Area in DuPont State Recreational Forest

Explore the lives of monarch butterflies and learn how you can help them and other pollinators in your own garden through demonstrations, resource materials, and a walk through a butterfly garden. If we are lucky, there will be adult monarchs to tag, in order to study and track their migration. Local volunteer Conservation Specialist with the Monarch Watch program, Joyce Pearsall, will discuss monarch migration and biology and the reasons we are concerned about their decreasing population. Program meets at the Guion Farm Parking Area in DuPont State Recreational Forest at 10:00 a.m. (3045 Sky Valley Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739). Limited to 20 participants and sign-up is required by calling Holmes Educational State Forest at 828-692-0100.

Grab your flashlight and join Ranger Jane Dauster for a night at DuPont in search of owls. Program will meet at the Guion Farm Parking Area in DuPont State Recreational Forest (3045 Sky Valley Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739) where we will enjoy a brief slide show on our local owl species. We will then be staged at the Guion Farm Shelter and try our luck at calling in an owl or two using a recording, in hopes of getting a reply. Sign-up is required, suitable for family audiences but young participants must be able to sit quietly and listen for owls! Bring a flashlight and adequate clothing layers for cooler weather. Event will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
