The Guion Farm parking area will be closed for construction beginning on Monday 14 November. Please avoid the Guion Farm access area while the work is underway so that we can finish this project as quickly as possible. WE'll post a banner on the website when the access area has reopened.
At DuPont State Recreational Forest, we use prescribed burns as one of several tools to keep the forest healthy and sustainable. Prescribed burns eliminate dead wood and debris that can lead to wildfires and helps to encourage the growth of oaks and other native trees that provide wildlife habitat.
We are currently planning a prescribed burn on Tuesday 22 November 2022 along Twin Oaks Trail, which will be closed for the duration of the burn.
Weather, staffing, and other conditions determine if a planned burn will occur, so even though a burn may be planned and needed, it may not be safe to follow through on the plan.
Hickory Mountain Road is open, but visitors should be alert for hazards when using it. We are improving forest diversity and wildlife habitat in the white pine plantation stands along Hickory Mountain Road. Timber activity is underway in that area as part of this improvement process.
