The NC Forest Service plans to conduct additional prescribed burns during April 2024. These burns aim to reduce the risk of wildfire while enhancing habitat for native plants and animals. The timing of a prescribed burn depends on multiple factors, so short notice is necessary when choosing a day for a burn. Areas still targeted for spring 2024 prescribed burns include: - Big Rock (DuPont State Recreational Forest) - Short Cut Trail (Holmes Educational State Forest) For your safety, please follow all posted trail closures, avoid areas involved in the prescribed burn and be aware that you will see and smell smoke in those areas.
